A small verse from the Holy Quran made me a Muslim
Dr. Gherini was a successful physician in Paris and a member of the French government. After converting to Islam, he separated from the government and left Paris to settle in a small village in France and became involved in public service. Mahmoud Misri met him at his house and asked him the reason for his conversion to Islam. A verse from the Quran, the doctor replied. Have you read the Quran from a Muslim scholar? No, I have not met a Muslim scholar yet. Then why did this incident happen? The doctor replied. I have often been on sea voyages, a large part of my life has been spent between water and sky. Similarly, once during a trip I found a French translation of the Quran. It was a translation by Monsieur Qari. When I opened it, there was a verse from Surah An-Nur in front of me, which described the nature of a seascape.
Translation: Like darkness in the deep sea, covered by waves, waves upon waves, clouds above it. Darkness upon darkness. In this state, if a person extends his hand, he cannot expect to see it. And for him to whom Allah does not give light, there is no light.
(Surat An-Nur 40)
I read with great interest this verse in which the nature of the sea was described. When I read the verse, I was deeply impressed by the excellence of the metaphor and the familiarity of the style of expression. I thought that Muhammad (peace be upon him) must have been a person who, like me, spent his days and nights on sea voyages. Yet I was amazed at how he described the wanderings of the misguided and the futility of their struggle in such brief words, as if he were standing on a ship in the blackness of the night, the darkness of the clouds and the storm of the waves and was watching the despair of a drowning man. I believe that no great expert on the dangers of the sea could have portrayed the dangers of the sea so successfully in so few words. But a short time later, I came to know that Muhammad (peace be upon him) had never sailed in his life. After this revelation, my heart was enlightened. I understood that this was not the voice of Muhammad (peace be upon him), but the voice of God who sees the courage of every drowning person in the darkness of the night. قران پاک اور سمندر
قرآن پاک کی ایک چھوٹی سی آیت نے مجھے مسلمان بنا دیا
ڈاکٹر غرینیہ پیرس کے ایک کامیاب طبیب ہونے کے علاوہ فرانسیسی حکومت کے رکن تھے۔ اسلام قبول کرنے کے بعد وہ حکومت سے الگ ہوگئے اور پیرس چھوڑ کر فرانس کے ایک چھوٹے گاؤں میں سکونت اختیار کرلی اور خدمت خلق میں مصروف ہو گئے۔ محمود مصری نے ان سے ان کے مکان پر مل کر ان کے اسلام قبول کرنے کا سبب دریافت کیا۔ قرآن کی ایک آیت، ڈاکٹر نے جواب دیا۔ کیا آپ نے کسی مسلمان عالم سے قرآن پڑھا ہے، نہیں میری اب تک کسی مسلمان عالم سے ملاقات نہیں ہوئی۔ پھر یہ واقعہ کیوں کر پیش آیا۔ ڈاکٹر نے جواب دیا۔ مجھے اکثر سمندری سفروں میں رہنے کا اتفاق ہوا ہے، میری زندگی کا بڑا حصہ پانی اور آسمان کے درمیان بسر ہوا ہے۔ اسی طرح ایک سفر میں ایک بار مجھے قرآن کا فرانسیسی ترجملہ ملا۔ یہ موسیو قاری کا ترجمہ تھا، میں نے اسے کھولا تو سورہ نور کی ایک آیت سامنے تھی جس میں ایک سمندری نظارے کی کیفیت بیان کی گئی۔
ترجمہ: جیسے اندھیرا گہرے سمندر میں، اس کا ڈھانپ لیا ہو موج نے، لہر کے اوپر لہر، اس کے اوپر بادل۔ اندھیرے پر اندھیرا اس حالت میں ایک شخص اپنا ہاتھ نکالے تو توقع نہیں کہ وہ اس کو دیکھ سکے اور جس کو اللہ نور نہ دے اس کے لیے کوئی روشنی نہیں
(سورة النور ٤٠)
میں نے اس آیت کو نہایت دلچسپی سے پڑھا جس میں سمندری نظارے کی کیفیت بیان کی گئی تھی، جب میں نے آیت پڑھی تو میں تمثیل کی عمدگی اور انداز بیاں کی واقفیت سے بے حد متاثر ہوا، میں نے خیال کیا کہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ضرور ایک ایسے شخص ہوں گے جن کے رات اور دن میری طرح سمندری سفروں میں گزرے ہوں گے، پھر بھی مجھے حیرت تھی کہ انہوں نے گمراہیوں کی آوارگی کا اور ان کی جدوجہد کی بے حاصلی کو کیسے مختصر الفاظ میں بیان کیا ہے گویا کہ وہ رات کی سیاہی، بادلوں کی تاریکی اور موجوں کے طوفان میں ایک جہاز پر کھڑے ہیں اور ایک ڈوبتے ہوئے شخص کی بدحواسی کو دیکھ رہے ہیں، میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ سمندری خطرات کا کوئی بڑے سے بڑا ماہر بھی اتنے کم الفاظ میں اتنے کامیاب طور پر خطرات بحر کی تصویر کشی نہیں کر سکتا۔ لیکن اس کے تھوڑے ہی عرصہ بعد مجھے معلوم ہوا کہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے کبھی زندگی بھر میں سمندر کا سفر نہیں کیا، اس انکشاف کے بعد میرا دل روشن ہو گیا۔ میں نے سمجھا کہ یہ محمد صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی آواز نہیں ہے بلکہ اس خدا کی آواز ہے جو رات کی تاریکی میں ہر ڈوبنے والے کے ہی حوصلہ کو دیکھ رہا ہوتا ہے، اس کے بعد میرے لیے اس کے سوا کوئی چارہ نہ تھا کہ میں مسلمان ہو جاؤں...بشکریہ: "دستک الفلاح
